Psychedelic Evening Tree is one of three pieces in my Evening Trees series, exploring the strange beauty and energy of the natural world after dark. I wanted the tree to feel ancient and grounded, surrounded by a night sky that feels almost alive.
The entire piece is created from natural hardwoods, using the color and grain of the wood as my palette. The walnut sky surrounds a wenge mountain, with bloodwood and Claro walnut forming the landscape below. The tree and glowing forms are built from bigote, figured maple, Osage, mahogany, and lacewood.
I love the idea of an old tree standing quietly beneath something much larger than itself. There is a sense of energy in the sky, but also stillness and ancient wisdom in the tree. Like all of my work, this piece is individually built by me in Los Angeles and finished in lacquer.
